Rainbow Rice- Simple inexpensive sensory play for kiddos!
Don’t get me wrong, I am all about sensory play and encouraging our little ones to learn and grow, but I need set up to be SUPER SIMPLE (two under two over here, so obviously the easier the better!)
So when I first saw Rainbow Rice I thought it looked a little to intense for me. That surely took at least half an hour to make. Right? NOPE! I was able to make this entire activity in under 10 minutes (minus drying time, of course!)
To make the rainbow rice, I followed a simple recipe:
- 2 Cups of uncooked white Rice (I bought a 5 lb bag for less than $3 from our local grocery store!)
- 1 tsp of vinegar
- 5-7 drops of liquid food coloring of choice
Keep in mind, this made enough rice to fill the container seen below. If needed, cut the recipe in half.
I mixed all of the ingredients into a gallon sized Ziploc and mixed until the color was dispersed evenly. Again- this process was SO quick;- I made all 4 colors in less than 10 minutes.
I let the Ziplocs sit overnight in order for everything to dry properly.
Come morning, they were dry! I was really worried about the food coloring transferring onto our hands, but nope! Nothing rubbed off!
We used the same container we had recently made our Moon Sand in to play and store the rice.
